STORY: 
In Whale Wars, a television series on Animal Planet, the crew of the Sea Shepherd ship Steve Irwin confronts the Japanese whaling vessel Yushin Maru (mistaken as "Ishimaru" in some references) in an attempt to disrupt illegal whaling in the Southern Ocean. During one of the most dramatic episodes, the Steve Irwin engages in direct action tactics to block the whalers from harpooning whales. The confrontation escalates when the Japanese ship fires water cannons at the Sea Shepherd crew, who respond with a barrage of stink bombs and attempts to tangle the whaling ship's propellers. The tension and high seas drama underscore the conflict between Sea Shepherd's anti-whaling activism and Japan's whaling operations under the guise of scientific research. This episode highlights the risks and extreme measures both sides take in this ongoing battle over whaling practices in protected waters.
