STORY :
- Sperm whales are known for their deep dives and can hold their breath for up to 90 minutes. They dive to great depths in search of squid and other prey.
- Humpback whales, which are often seen breaching, can typically hold their breath for 20 to 30 minutes, though they usually surface more frequently, every 5 to 15 minutes, during normal activity.
- Blue whales, the largest animals on Earth, can hold their breath for about 20 minutes on average, although they can stay submerged for longer if needed.
The time between breaching and resurfacing depends on the whale's activities and needs, but they are well-adapted to spend extended periods underwater before coming back up for another breath—and perhaps another spectacular breach!
